Genetic Consenting Training Programme

 

The following modules aim to provide training to oncologists and surgeons on a variety of topics pertaining to mainstream consenting and support the local establishment of alternative consenting methods.

Topics include the definition of genetic consenting, how and why it is performed, some of the challenges of mainstream consenting, and examples of alternative models of consenting.

By the end of this programme, you should be able to:

  • Define what is meant by genetic consenting
  • Understand how genetic consenting is traditionally carried out
  • Appreciate the potential limitations of traditional genetic consenting pathways
  • Understand what is meant by mainstream genetic consenting and its potential advantages
