Background:

  • Therapy with targeted agents (e.g. antibodies, tyrosine kinase inhibitors) is established in several cancer types
  • Drug access to targeted agents is severely limited in some countries in Central and Eastern Europe (e.g. Romania, Bulgaria), thus leading to (1) limited treatment options in some cancer indications and (2) lack of training experience with novel therapeutics for young oncologists

Purpose:

  • To enable young oncologists from central eastern Europe to gain experience with cancer treatment using biological agents
  • To develop new trial initiatives with targeted agents and young oncologists from Eastern and Central Europe in responsible positions
  • This initiative will facilitate equality in cancer care across Europe

Curriculum:

  • 4 – 6 weeks stay at Department of Medicine I, Clinical Division of Oncology, Comprehensive Cancer Center Vienna, Medical University of Vienna
  • Observership at in- and outpatient clinics
  • Attendance of tumor boards, lectures and journal clubs
